Research & Development: Google Maps API

Article

(2i) --The latest bout of research and development is with Google Maps API for use on Control Chat. What is the Google Maps API? As Google states:

"The Google Maps API lets you embed Google Maps in your own web pages with JavaScript. The API provides a number of utilities for manipulating maps and adding content to the map through a variety of services, allowing you to create robust maps applications on your website."

The purpose of this project is to take multiple bits of pre-existing online content (in the public domain) and assemble it into one robust and user friendly application. In the case of Control Chat, Google Maps API allows users to find a flying club on the map by state, see and link to information about that club, and be able to preview the clubs flying field via Google Earth.

Future development on this project will involve users ability to add a flying location to the map, input information about that location (including links/images/etc.), and enter events related to that location that will then be fed into various calendars that visitors of Control Chat can then access.

Utilizing pre-existing technologies, we are working to collate the 'bits and pieces' of information (that users are looking for) and placing them into one succinct web location.
